An interview with…….

Following on from last weeks Blog I had another visitor to the Shed, some would say “oh it’s Amanda” Others would say “A Potted Goddess”

Hey Amanda! I managed to find a half decent chair for you to sit on after Claud complained last week about sitting in a pot. I’d offer you a drink but all my mugs are full with Ivy, spiders or Philo’s.. Thanks for popping down though I know you are busy so lets get into this.

Can you explain how you got involved with Potted and your day to day role?

Hi Shaun! Thank you for having me here! I’ve known Cort for around 15 years and we had worked on projects in the past, so when she came to me saying she had created the base game for Potted and needed another scripter to get things finished and polished up, I jumped at the chance! I played breedables years ago, and I’m a fan of any game where you can grow things.

What one thing could Linden Labs change to make your job easier?

Working within SL has a lot of unique challenges like how we have to handle lists of data. If I had to say one thing, it would be to increase the script memory for individual scripts. In a game like ours, the actually used memory is almost always very low, but there’s a lot we have to build into the scripts that are only used on occasion. We have to cram a lot into the scripts for things that may only happen one time during the life of a plant (setting up the initial plant, handling Plant Truck turn-ins). These additions don’t really contribute to lag the way constantly active scripts do, but they do push us against the memory limits and force us to get creative!

Its been a couple of weeks since you gave us the update on the huge update that is coming, everything still going as planned?

Yes! We are still getting the pieces together! This past week, we did some more tests on the Plant Truck process, which I’m really looking forward to getting live. It will give people ways to pare down their collections a bit, but also give them access to really special LEs that you can’t find anywhere else, so I think it’ll be a win-win!

I have heard at Auctions that the way the Auction House seed is won is changing. Can you tell us the details of that or is that still top secret?

You’re right, the Auction House seed process is changing. One of the biggest changes is that auction houses will no longer be submitting support tickets in order for us to deliver the seeds. That is much less work on the auction staff, and also means less crossed communication. With the new system, we will also be limiting each player to winning one seed per month gridwide, so more people have the opportunity to win!

and something random……….
If you had to be an animal for a day, what would you be?

I love animals, so that’s a hard choice! Those of you that know me know my avatar is only a human about half the time! But I am partial to raccoons because they’re fluffy and waddly, but they’re also crazy smart and troublemakers. They are good with their hands too so I could probably still type that day!

Thanks again Amanda for taking a minute out to answer the questions, I’m sure what you have said will answer some questions out there in the community.

Wonder who my next victim I mean interviewee should be. Maybe Krysta, perhaps she will leave some WIPS behind for me again, and lets face it, we all want to know what animal she would be for a day, right?

Until next week, I hope to see you all at the event 20-22nd November!
Keep notices on as that’s where it will be announced that it is OPEN
