Since the beginning, Potted’s Official Market Sim Program has given our community dedicated places to shop, sell, attend events, and connect with other Potted players.
As Potted has grown and changed, we’ve taken a fresh look at the program, and we’ve decided it’s time to make things a lot simpler.
Beginning now, we’re retiring the Official Potted Market Sim Program and replacing it with our new Potted Community Market Program.
And if you’re currently an Official Market: you’re already in.
A Simpler Market Program
The Community Market Program is designed to give market owners more flexibility while keeping the things that matter most to Potted shoppers.
We’re simplifying many of the ongoing requirements that came with maintaining Official Market status, giving Community Market owners more flexibility in how they operate and promote their markets.
Instead, we’re focusing on something much simpler:
If we send a Potted player to your market, we want them to land somewhere they can easily find Potted and start shopping.
To be listed as a Potted Community Market, a location must:
- Be an actual public rental market rather than a personal store
- Provide at least 10 rental spaces for outside Potted sellers
- Maintain a dedicated Potted shopping area
- Provide a dedicated landing point for that Potted area
Beyond those basic requirements, how you operate your market is largely up to you.
To Our Existing Official Markets
First: thank you.
Many of you have participated in the Official Market Program for years, worked with our staff, supported our programs, and provided dedicated places for Potted players to buy and sell.
We appreciate everything you’ve put into the program, and we hope this change makes participating easier for you, too.
You’ll be able to continue receiving the most useful community-facing benefits of the program, with fewer ongoing requirements attached to maintaining your listing.
And you don’t need to do anything to make the transition.
All currently qualifying Official Potted Markets will automatically become Listed Potted Community Markets. There is no need to reapply.
What Community Markets Still Receive
Listed Community Markets will continue to receive a market listing on the official Potted website, helping players find dedicated places to shop throughout Second Life.
Listed Community Markets will also be able to submit their Potted-exclusive auctions and events for inclusion on the Potted Community Events Calendar.
And we’re continuing the Superstar Seed Program, giving qualifying Community Markets access to special Superstar Seeds that can be awarded through approved community events and contests.
What’s Retiring With the Official Program?
Some benefits were created specifically around the more structured Official Market partnership, and those will retire along with it.
The Monthly Market Benefit Pot Program ends with the August 2026 Benefit Pot.
The Market Sim Gift Patron Gift Packages are also ending in August.
We know the Benefit Pots in particular have been a beloved part of the Official Market Program, and we know some of you will be sad to see them go. They’ve been a lot of fun for us over the years, too.
As we move toward a more accessible Community Market program, we want the benefits we provide to be ones we can offer consistently across a larger group of qualifying markets.
Thinking About Starting a Potted Market?
Maybe you’ve considered joining the Official Market Program before but weren’t sure the program was right for you.
Maybe you already operate a market with a Potted section but never applied.
Or maybe you’ve thought about opening a Potted market of your own.
This program is for you, too.
If you want to create a real rental marketplace with at least 10 spaces and give Potted shoppers a dedicated, easy-to-find place to shop, we’d love to have you apply.
Markets that support multiple breedables are welcome, too, we simply require Potted to have its own dedicated shopping area and landing point rather than having Potted sellers scattered throughout a larger mixed market.
Why We’re Making the Change
Ultimately, we want Potted’s relationship with our markets to be about support rather than oversight.
We want to help our players find great places to shop.
We want to help our markets reach those players.
We want to support Potted-exclusive auctions, contests, and events happening within those markets.
And we want market owners to have the flexibility to run their businesses in the way that works best for them.
Our Official Markets helped build the marketplace community we have today. We’re incredibly grateful for the work they’ve put into that program and for the support they’ve given Potted and our players over the years.
Now we’re making it easier to be part of it.
Welcome to Potted Community Markets. ❤️
